In the role of Head of Technology Architecture & Media Systems, you will take on strategic and technological responsibility for our mission-critical media solutions. You will drive the architecture of our platforms, lead an interdisciplinary team, and develop technical visions that resonate across all areas of the company – from film production to distribution to AI integration. The preferred work location is Leipzig; however, depending on availability, our sites in Erfurt, Halle (Saale), Berlin, or Magdeburg are also possible alternatives.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a holistic technology architecture for all media-related business areas
  • Create system roadmaps, architectural principles, and platform strategies
  • Establish a future-proof and scalable technical foundation
  • Take responsibility for media asset management systems, distribution platforms, post-production solutions, and AI interfaces
  • Integrate and further develop cutting-edge AI applications
  • Provide technical leadership for a team of developers and specialists
  • Work closely with management, content production, sales, and external partners

  • 2–5 years of professional experience in a senior technical role, ideally with architectural responsibilities
  • Solid understanding of media-related technologies (MAM, DAM, cloud workflows, API architectures)

Media Asset Manager

Founded in 1950 in East Berlin, PROGRESS is one of Germany’s oldest and largest film exploitation companies. Since 2019, the company has been digitizing, cataloging, and distributing the entire DEFA collection, along with growing archival collections from around the world. These are made accessible through the curated platform http://www.progress.film, setting new standards in the preservation and dissemination of cinematic cultural heritage.

To strengthen our team, we are looking for a Media Asset Manager (m/f/d) to join us as soon as possible, either full-time or part-time. The preferred work location is Leipzig; however, depending on availability, our offices in Erfurt, Halle (Saale), Berlin, or Magdeburg are also possible.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Optimization and automation of the Media Asset Management (MAM) system
  • Development and implementation of API-based interfaces
  • Management and optimization of data workflows between MAM, storage, and backup systems
  • Development and documentation of scripts to automate MAM processes
  • Ensuring performance and quality of MAM workflows

What We’re Looking For:

  • Completed studies or vocational training in media management, information science, archiving, or a comparable qualification
  • Experience with MAM systems, ideally EditShare Flow
  • Proficiency in Python, REST APIs, and data formats (JSON, XML, CSV)
  • Understanding of metadata management and digital archiving
  • Confident handling of media formats (MXF, ProRes, MP4, WAV)
  • Experience with storage and backup systems (LTO, cloud storage) is a plus
  • Structured and independent working style
  • Very good German & English skills

Internship in Archive & Documentary Film Production

We are PROGRESS and we love history, films and archives. One of our most important business areas is archive services for the documentary film industry. We collect and distribute film and photographic material, develop collections from all over the world and manage archive research and rights clearance for documentary film productions.

If you would like to gain an insight into this world, then you should be our intern and support our Archive Producing team.

Your tasks will include:

  • Researching historical film and photo material for current documentary film projects
  • Clearance of usage rights
  • Media management (download, ingest...)
  • Keywording and metadata maintenance

What we are looking for:

  • You are enthusiastic about history and film
  • You are fluent in English, if you also speak German, all the better!
  • You have a wide range of interests, you are quick on the uptake and not afraid of technical or legal processes
  • You work independently, carefully and reliably
  • You are a team player
  • You have approx. 30-40 hours per week from July (or later)
  • You would like to work with us for 3 months or complete a mandatory internship as part of your studies
  • You are studying film, media, cultural studies, history, media technology or something comparable in your Bachelor's or Master's degree

Internship Film Distribution - Marketing (m/w/d)

Location: Leipzig | Full-time | Immediately

We are PROGRESS, founded in 1950, and we love history, films, and archives. Our film distribution company will soon be bringing two great movies to the big screen. For this exciting time, we are looking for a mandatory intern to support us in the areas of marketing, social media, and content analysis.

Your tasks • Social media research, content analysis • Preparation and design of content • Social media marketing, seeding, channel growth, SEO • Support in planning various events

What we are looking for • You are enthusiastic about films and creative communication processes • You have experience working with graphics programs (e.g., Photoshop or Canva) • You can quickly familiarize yourself with topics • You can communicate easily in English • You work independently, carefully, and reliably • You have approx. 30-40 hours per week available • You would like to work with us for at least 3 months
