Synopsis

Hannah Arendt - activist, media star, thinker “without railings”. She became famous for her study on the emergence of totalitarian rule. She is controversial for her diagnosis of the “banality of evil”. She is admired for her tireless and fearless advocacy of freedom of thought and an open society. She wrote about the catastrophes of the 20th century and yet seems to speak directly to us in the here and now.

Her life was shaped by the experience of Hitler fascism and the incomprehensibility of the Holocaust. But even the darkest times cannot take away her pride and humor. As a woman and as a Jew, as a stateless person and resistance fighter, as an escape helper and as an intellectual, she works tirelessly to understand the world she loves.

Hannah Arendt's path

“Hannah Arendt: Thinking is Dangerous” is a gripping retelling of this path of life and thought. At the center are original quotes from Arendt and her numerous friends and correspondents. We learn how she perceived and thought through historical events and processes, how she loved and doubted. Actress Nina Hoss lends her voice to Arendt's essays, letters and poems. Atmospheric archive footage shows us the world between Königsberg and New York as Hannah Arendt herself might have seen it.

“A welcoming edition of professionally made documentaries that investigates the origins of totalitarian movements.”
