In postwar France, Reda Kateb plays Jan Bojarski, a Polish refugee who becomes the most brilliant counterfeiter of his era. For over a decade and a half, he produces nearly perfect banknotes in his backyard—so convincing that even the Banque de France cannot tell them apart from the originals.
But the flood of counterfeit money brings Inspector Mattei (Bastien Bouillon) onto the scene, whose relentless pursuit of the unknown master counterfeiter leads to a nerve-wracking game of cat and mouse, in which Bojarski takes ever-greater risks—until his entire existence is on the line.

The film “The Money Maker” is based on the incredible but true story of Ceslaw Jan Bojarski, a Polish-French engineer who became one of Europe’s most ingenious counterfeiters in the 1950s and 1960s. Driven by financial hardship, Bojarski began producing his own banknotes in a hidden basement laboratory—so perfectly that even the Bank of France was unable to distinguish them from genuine bills for years. It took 13 years before he was caught by chance. The press later dubbed him the “Cézanne of counterfeit money.”
